Two empty and clean candle jars repurposed as vases.

Candle Jars

Candle jars cannot be recycled curbside, even if they are clean. Instead of throwing them out, try turning them into vases or storage containers!

A granny square crocheted with an old plastic grocery bag.

Plastic Bags

Plastic bags cannot be recycled curbside. They are knows as “tanglers” – Items that tangle the sorting machines, forcing employees to climb into the machines and cut them free. Instead of tossing them out, cut them into strips and use them to knit or crochet!

A plastic clamshell and a plant sprout.

Plastic Clamshells

Plastic clamshells cannot be recycled curbside. They flatten in recycling trucks and go on to contaminate paper recycling. Instead of throwing them out, use them as mini greenhouses! Simply partially fill a clean clamshell and use it to plant seeds and get your sprouts started.

A rock colorfully painted. It says "Well done!"

Rocks

Rocks cannot be composted curbside. Instead of tossing them out, paint them for Vancouver Rocks! Decorate them and hide them around the community for others to find.
